Why have a blog

To blog or not to blog, it’s a question I hear often.

Many businesses are told that they should have a blog but they don’t really know why. As a result, the task of writing a blog goes to the bottom of a to-do list and it never gets written.

Blogs are a great piece of shareable content and I often include them in marketing plans.

Here’s why:

1. Helps to build your online content

Blogs help to grow your online presence and give you another reason to appear in search engine results. The more content you have that is relevant to your target audience, the more likely you are to appear in their online research.

2. Tells customers more about what you do

This is an opportunity to share more about the service or product you offer. You can do this in the form of a case study, a spotlight on a service, or a behind the scenes style story.

For example, are you a marriage celebrant who also offers speech writing workshops? Write a blog with tips on how to cope with public speaking anxiety or tips for the perfect wedding speech.

A key tip for maximising blogs - share share share! There is no point in writing a blog if no one knows about it.

3. Drives return traffic to your website

Having a blog gives customers a reason to visit your website, especially if they have already visited and got the information they were looking for. By sharing a blog you are continually engaging with them and inviting them to get to know you better. This builds brand loyalty and keeps your business top of mind.

Tell them about your blog by sharing a link to your latest blog on social media, in your e-newsletter and on your Google Business listing.

4. Creates shareable content

People like to share things that they think will interest other people they know and blogs are very shareable. Having your blog shared will increase your audience and see new people visiting your website. You could pick up new customers this way!

5. Build your brand

Customers are loyal to businesses they know and like - so show them how likeable you are! Do you have an office full of foodies who love a cooking challenge? Are you involved with a charity or community event? Write a blog about this! Your customers will love the insight into your company culture.

6. Keeps your website content fresh

Google likes websites that are regularly refreshed because it shows that the content is current and relevant. This will help your website appear higher in search results.

7. Builds relationships with suppliers

Getting suppliers involved in your blog is a great way to illustrate how you work together. You could simply make reference to them in the blog, or invite them as a guest blogger. Make sure you link their company name to their website and encourage them to share the blog too.
